Nuvation was commissioned by a client to design a product for scientific research instrumentation that administers controlled electrical power injection into electrodes and provides high precision power metering complemented by temperature, pressure, voltage, and current measurements. As part of this project, Nuvation’s hardware team provided hardware design, schematics, layout, prototyping, and validation testing.
Design Features:
- Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) Device: Supports IEEE802.3at / PoE+ Class 4.
- Microcontroller Module: The use of the popular Teensy 4.1 facilitates both hardware and software development, leveraging extensive Arduino community libraries.
- Isolated CC/CV Supplies: Two adjustable isolated DC/DC converters with constant current and constant voltage control, ensuring precise power injection.
- Power Monitoring: Features two high precision, high accuracy power meters with dedicated voltage sense lines and absolute difference amplifiers.
- 4-Wire Resistance Measurement: The resistance is measured by taking a ratiometric reading of the differential voltage and current measurements.
- Temperature Monitoring: Three individual 4-wire RTD AFEs measure a wide range of temperatures with high accuracy.
- Pressure Sensing: Interfaces with off-board 24-bit absolute temperature sensor.
