eRex is an electric vehicle that we started building in 2008 for the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE. At the time, electric vehicles were much less common than they are now, so building a car like this was a very exciting task. When we couldn’t find a suitable battery management system (BMS) to use in the vehicle, we decided to make one ourselves. With our electronic design experience, we were confident we could build exactly what we needed.
Our BMS turned out to be a success! This led to the creation of Nuvation Energy, a division of Nuvation Engineering that specializes in battery management systems and energy storage engineering.
